Podiatrist

A podiatrist deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs.

They implement risk prevention strategies to prevent foot pathologies, provide treatment that delays or minimises the need for hospitalisation and/or invasive treatment, and create therapeutic health care plans, which maximise a patient’s quality of life.

Services

Podiatrist’s are health professionals who specialise in the examination, treatment and management of the lower limbs including the foot and ankle. They may treat patients with bone and joint disorders including:

  • Flat feet in adults and children
  • Children’s  growing pain
  • Orthotic Arch Support
  • Heel Spurs
  • Orthopaedic shoes
  • Ankle pain
  • Shin splints
  • Sports injuries
  • Podiatry service approved for Workers compensation, Third party insurance, Department of Veterans Affairs, Health Funds

Podiatrists can diagnose and treat complications that affect skin and nails, corns, calluses and ingrown toenails, foot injuries and infections.

Triggers for referral to a podiatrist include:

  • Patient with diabetes and peripheral vascular disease, or neuropathy
  • Clinical diagnosis or history of foot or lower limb deformity
  • Clinical diagnosis of falls.

For conditions such as recurring sprains and chronic pain, podiatrists may prescribe foot orthoses. The Podiatrist’s scope of practice includes areas such as paediatrics, diabetes, sports injuries, structural problems, the treatment of the elderly as well as general foot care.

Naim Bireroglu
BHlthSc/ MPodMed Podiatrist

Naim has completed a Bachelor of Health Science/Mastering in Podiatric Medicine from the University of Western Sydney. His experience includes that of all scopes of podiatry care including bio-mechanical, chronic disease, paediatric and general podiatry.

He has worked in many different settings including mobile podiatry, high risk in public hospital setting both local and internationally as well as having extensive private practice podiatry experience. His love of sports (including basketball and power-lifting among many other sports) has also fuelled his interest in sports bio-mechanics in which is his most experienced scope of practice.
